Duke University has been part of the Durham community for over 100 years. With over 30,000 employees and 13,000 students living and working in Durham and the surrounding area, the quality of life and success of our community is intrinsically tied to the success of the university. The Office of Durham and Regional Affairs, headed by Dr. Phail Wynn Jr., works hard to strengthen our partnerships with area schools and businesses, accelerate the economic renewal in downtown Durham and ensure future innovation and growth for the region. The office also coordinates and administers the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership. The Partnership, which was formed in 1996, works to improve quality of life and educational achievement in the 12 neighborhoods closest to campus.
At the Duke University Health System, the Office of Community Relations works with the Durham community to engage the vast resources available through the health system, while simultaneously encouraging Duke Medicine employees to participate in their communities.
